7th Graders Set Up
Sedimentation Study
The eruption of Mt. St. Helens created a dam in the Toutle River Valley, causing sediment to accumulate. On their field trip to the volcano last week, the 7th graders established a grid that will allow future classes to determine how quickly the sediment is accumulating. The results will be shared with the local community and the Army Corps of Engineers. Every year the 7th Grade takes a trip to the mountain to study volcanology. |

Students work on a post to track sediment accumulation. |

LS Students Sprint
For Fun and Fitness
Lower Schoolers started off a misty morning today with an assembly on the bleachers followed by a run on the track. By the time they finished, the sun was coming out and everybody had gotten their exercise for the day. Parent volunteers kept track of the laps and the total will be announced next week. See more photos. |

OESians Run or Volunteer
To Help Congo Women
Undaunted OESians braved a downpour last Saturday for the 5th Annual Run for Congo Women in Forest Park. Over 60 students, teachers, alumni and parents ran or walked the 3-mile and 9-mile trails in Forest Park and staffed volunteer positions. Laurie R. ’11 recruited the OES participants, whom organizers referred to as the “backbone of the day.” As a result of last year’s Midwinter Madness fundraising campaign, Upper School and Middle School students are supporting 38 women and 212 children in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo through the RfCW/Women for Women International sponsorship program.
