Once Again, Good
Children Vanquish
Forces of Evil
St. Nick's Chapel began solemnly with prayers and carols. The mood changed to celebratory when St. Nick arrived, but then an element of discord intruded when wicked Piet showed up. After Piet was banished, students sang of "Twelve Days of Christmas," reaching a crescendo as the 12th Grade drummers drummed deliriously while students in the lower grades shouted out their lines. It was a perfect sendoff for two weeks of vacation. See more photos.

Right: Fourth-graders sing out "Four Calling Birds!" |

Students Visit Art Museum
Fifth-, sixth-, and seventh-graders had the opportunity to visit the Portland Art Museum on Monday, December 14, when it was closed to the public. They also spent considerable time in China Design Now, a major exhibition of creative design ranging from graphics to architecture. OES parents will have a special opportunity to visit the musem on January 13 and 14. |

Dudley Says, 'Dream Big'
Former Trail Blazer Chris Dudley recently came to a Lower School assembly to read his book, Chris Dreams Big, about overcoming his diabetes and becoming an NBA player. He wrote the book to inspire children to follow their dreams no matter what the obstacle. He talked with the kids about their dreams and holding on to them, and a few days later he demonstrated how to do that as he announced his bid for the Republican nomination for governor of Oregon. |
